The wedding

This is the final picture of my Ford truck!
i will put some more pictures in the gallery this week,
It was a beautiful day on the 28th of oct. and the ford did great!
(some overheating of the engine) the timing is still not what it has to be!
but we made it! The ford is in it`s garage again, for the winter! and i will finetune the timing some more.

I had a great time with this truck,

9 oktober 2005

The licence plates!!

finaly the licenceplates are on the truck! and i can drive the truck legaly!
i still have to adjust the timing, the truck`s speed does not exeed 60 km p/h
and the engine souds rough! and overheats now and then.
I still have some time to fix that problem! i`m going to get married at the 28th of oct.
so i hope i can get the timing right for that time!

i have updated the pictures at the gallery so take a look!

12 september 2005

The Ford Passed the test!

Finaly! I have a Title for my ford!!!
I just had to adjust the brakes and put some reflectors on the back of the bed!
and that was it! after 2 working days the title will be send to me, with this title i can order a set of licenceplates! so within a week the Ford will hit the road legally!

I received a gift from a fellow`33 Ford truck owner, after giving him a glass chart diagrams.
A `33 commercial michigan licence plate!!!
This realy is the finishing touch of my Truck! and i am realy greathfull for this rare plate.
and will restore it in original colors.
So Thanx again Jim & James!!!

4 september 2005

It did not pass the test!

Unfortunaly it did not passed the test, but it was close!
I told the master mechanic i was getting married, and wanted to use the ford to drive us.
so they where easy on me, But safety first! and one of my rear brakes didn`t had the same strenght
as the other one, The wedge was stuck and i had to give up,
i also forgot to place some reflectors on the back of the bed, these reflectors are a must in the EU.
if i could adjust the right rear brake, and bought some reflectors at the shop next to the R.D.W
The Ford would have passed the test!
Today i have repaired the wedge, i hit it a few times with a hammer and put some Kroil penetrating oil on the wedge. finaly it came loose, now i can adjust the brakes and i can make a second apointment with the R.D.W!
this time i will get my Title!!!!!!
I`ll let you know when i have my second test!

I have some new pics in the gallery!! Go an look for yourself!

1 september 2005

the Ford is going for its title!

Tomorrow is the big day!
at 13:00 European time, I will drive the Ford to the R.D.W
Here they will run the Ford trough some tests to see if the car is safe for the road! and it will get a title! But The most cars do not get a title at the first time! there is always a little thing thats coursing troubble! headlight adjustments, not enough brake power, mirror has to be set one in. wider, and so on! So you have to repair or adjust the problems , and then you can come back for a second test.
if everything is in order, you will get the title, after ten working days in the mailbox!
Lets hope there are no huge problems and expensive adjustments, and the Ford will get its title after examination.

a well, we will see tomorrow!
I`m feeling like a student before his graduation
i`m nervous!!!!!

24 augustus 2005

stupid me!

That was stupid! thinking the generator cutout was the problem!
not! Thats what you get for listening to others and i never have done this before!
The only thing a cut out does, is shutting off the powerline (after turning off the engine) to prevent the battery run dead.
My problem was a good battery! I didn`t had one! I start the engene with a 12 volt bat.
then take the bat. out again, this courses the generator to produce a lot of volts!
when i increase the throttle the generator could reach up to 24 volts!!

And 6 volt bulbs die like flies!
you would think a 6 volt generator produces 6 volts right?
But the strangest thing is: if i let the 12v bat. in the car while the engine is running, and messure the volts with a voltmeter, it does the same! but when i change the 12v for a 6 volt bat.
the generator does not reach above the 6 volts!
Is a battery a sort of regulator?
I still don`t get it, but the problem is solved! and thats whats matters!

A other problem is my windows! the shop who cut`s my doorglass had a problem with their oven,
so they send it to another shop to harden the glass in their oven!
This oven reaches higher teperatures, and my windows cracked!
I have waited 6 weeks for them!

I updated the pictures! nice one`s with the wheels painted!

go and look in the gallery!

17 augustus 2005

headlights 2

The headlights are on the truck!!!, and they are b.e.a beautifull!! polished stainless steel!
and the motormeterwings are on the hood too, now it doesn`t look like a trophee anymore!
also the generator cutout has been renewed , this was the problem of the burned out bulbs!
Now it`s all about painting the wheels, i have two wheels ready, still four wheels to go!
but it looks great!!

go and look!!!

WINGS FOR MOTOR METER/CHROME

It was send from the US on Aug 12!!! in two days!!!
all these parts come from MAC`s !!! i give them three
Next weekend i realy can finish my truck!
well i still need my windows, and lampbulbs (European!) becouse US bulbs are not allowed in the EU
In the EU the lightbeam has to be indirect on the reflector (mirror)
But at the end of this month there will be the classic car market, they will have al the lambulbs i`m searching for!

The wheels

Today we painted one wheel, just to see how it looked.
The Ford is very black, and a little color doesn`t hurt anybody.
I used the color ocker for the wheels, (yellow is to --- how do you say that? Fresh? Hard?)
and ocker is durty yellow, and looks old too!
On the picture it looks a little like orange, but it`s ocker.
maybe in later pics, you`ll see the real color.
Also we have had some work on the bed, you can see that in the updated pictures!

2 augustus 2005

turn signals

The turnsignals are mounted on the ford. I need 6 volt tube lights for it, wich i have ordered today.

On the 26,27 and 28th of August there is a Classic car market in the Netherlands,
There i can search for the last parts i need for the truck! On the 2th of sept. the Ford will go for it`s title! ( I hope the ford will get it`s title on it`s first visit at the R.D.W.) But In the Netherlands everything on the car has to be perfect before you can hit the road!
Then, if everything is in order, i will receive the title within 10 working day`s!

28 juli 2005

stakebed almost ready!

Wat a way to fill my hollyday, I have one week off, and every day i`m at the garage! but hard work pays off! we are almost ready with the low stakebed. The turn indicators are arrived , so we can mount them tomorrow!

here you can see the results.

go to the Ford picture gallery

27 juli 2005

The low stakebed!

We finaly starded with the stakebed, but we keep it a low stakebed 40 centimeters!
It would be nice to have a big ford emblem on the back of this truck!
if you want to see the rest of the pictures, just click on the link below!

go to the Ford picture gallery

We are still waiting for the windowglass to arive, and the turn indicators, but well, we have enough things to do to keep us bussy for a while!

20 juli 2005

picture update

i`ve updated the picture gallery, and ordered wood for the stake/flatbed? still not sure!
i also ordered a new pair of headlights!! stainless steel and Ford made!
becouse i blew up the light bulbs from these headlights! and these bulbs are hard to find!!
even in the netherlands!!! and they are dutch light bulbs! (Philips duplo type 6745 45/40w 6v)
But i needed the original headlights, so why not order them right away!
Now it`s waiting again!! The wood should be ready on saturday morning, i also found some turn signals, i will pick them up satursay aswell, and i hope the door window glass wil be ready soon,
i hate waiting! but sometimes it`s the only thing you can do, ( for now)

9 juli 2005

door windows

Today i`ve been to a carglass shop, with the messurements of the original window glass,
they cut a pease of hardened glas i the right shape, so within two weeks the glass wil be ready.
and then we can work on the fladbed or stakebed (i`m still not sure).
i`ll start with the bed, and see what happens!

26 juni 2005

boyce motometer

and there it is, a beautifull chrome plated boyce motometer, or does it look to much like a trophee?( i think i`m going to buy the motometer wings also!)

we also painted the inside of the door of the driver site, and blew up a few light bulbs
the positive ground came from the generator! hmmm i think i will connect them to the battery
next time! maybe the generator gives to much amps.?

we keep on learning!

25 juni 2005

Ford museum Den Hartogh.

My mother came back from the states! and brought back some licence plates for me!
they are not chicago plates, but Ford`s home base detroit michigan!

The top plate is an `76 Bicentennial themed plate,

Today i have visited the Den Hartogh Ford museum,( see link on the left!)
they have the world largest private collection of ford.
this is a letter send to the museum by Bill Clay Ford:

They also had a `33 ford truck, 8 cyl. but the interior is the same, so i could find out what i was missing for mine, and see where the doorseals have to be placed.
i made a few pics, also from a 6 cyl T ford.

also the parts have arrived from the us, including a boyce motometer
even the 8 cyl ford truck from the museum didn`t had a motometer!
i like to know how hot my engine is getting! so my truck is getting one!

19 juni 2005

headlights 2

as you can see, it worked! now its all about aligning the lights,
here you see the layout for aligning lights.

next thing to do is finding some door windows, waiting for parts to arrive from the US
and buy some wood for the flatbed.

and I need it fast! becourse i`m going to get maried in octobre, and i want this truck to drive us!
I still need a title for it! i hope i`m going to make it!

18 juni 2005

headlights

today i placed the headlights, headlight conduits and connected the wirering,
but nothing happened! the headlights didn`t made contact with the headlightbar, the headlightbar was to well painted, so no metal was touched (wat is nessesary for - pole)
so tomorow i have to scrape some paint off to make a good connection with the headlightbar, and we`ll see wat happens!

12 juni 2005

whiper motor

Today we mounted the whiper motor, made a turnsignal wirering, and placed the outside mirror.
there was a problem mounting the whipermotor and whipers, as you can read at the picturegallery
but it all worked out just fine, after a lot of cutting whiper shafts!! , I think the whiper arms are very thin!! and the blades! it`s just not what i`m used to know. Just don`t go out with pouring rain!
It will be a nice weather car!

go and look for yourself at 117 pictures of restauration!!

5 juni 2005

pictures update!

Finaly we starded with the wood work and placed the rear window!
now we are getting somewhere.
after painting the inside of the cabine we did all the work we didn`t liked.
now we have the fun stuff waiting to do. whiper motor, mirrors and that sort of things!
i`m also waiting for new parts to arrive from the USA,
i placed a order with Le Barron Boney, for a motometer ( on the radiator), becourse i cant find
a motormeter cable anywhere! for the one i have in my dash.
The motormeter in my dash isn`t a original (i think) in place of that there had to be a liquid fuel gauge.
witch is also missing! maybe i can spot one later.
Yep Thats the problem with old cars, in the years everybody made adjustments, and replaced stuff
Now i have to find the original parts, and that isn`t a easy job!!
But it keeps you off the streets right? ( and social life!)

2 juni 2005

`32 ford highboy

I think this is gonna be my new car when i`m ready with the BB Truck!
The `32 ford Highboy!!!

Well first i have to finish what i started.

29 mei 2005

runningboard steps

finaly the engine runs smooth!! we have placed the hood and runningboard step plates,
looks real nice!
next thing to do is finishing the interior, paint, doors, windscreen, etc.
then we can install the mirrors, wiper motor, and turn signals!
these are all fun things to do!! if i look back to the pictures from a while ago, especialy
those with the sanding, i`m glad that we made it this far!!
next weekend the weather should be nice, about 23 degrees F.
Then we will get a long way in the good direction!

i`ll keep you posted.

for now, look at this!

go to the Ford picture gallery

22 mei 2005

fenders and runningboards

Today i found some time to reasamble the fenders and runningboards again,
the headlights bar has some new molded rubber pads, and stainless steel locking bolds.
i think this was enough for this weekend!
it is nice weather and my bottle of wine is waiting!

go look for yourself, if you want to know how the ford looks like now!!!

go to the Ford picture gallery

21 mei 2005

lights on!

The parts from Mac`s have arrived! such as speedometer cable, mirrors, and the lightswitch wire harnas.
these were the parts i was waiting for!
we finaly placed the steering colom and box!
the new lightswitch housing also has been placed under the steering box, and it was time to test the lightswitch!

go and watch!!

go to the Ford picture gallery

15 mei 2005

next parts to come.

i`m waiting for the next parts :

from le baron bonney:

AIR MAZE AIR CLEANER

EXHAUST DEFLECTOR FORD SCRIPT

PAPER AIR FILTER ELEMENT

SWING ARM PIVOT BOLT SET

SWING ARM CUP WASHERS

DISTRIBUTOR BODY

I`m hoping to see these items next week!
Then we can mount the fenders and hoodl then it will get the shape of a ford bb!

now the fun part begins!!!!

The engine runs again!

It finaly worked!! the engine runs! we timed the engine set the gap of the points, and it runs!
in one try!! well it starts and runs for a while, but we have to tune the timing some more!
we also placed the radiator shell, and the lacing.
The pictures are updated!!
go look for yourself!

Ariel Atom

I`m a real fan of the car program Topgear!
Now they were testing a car called Ariel Atom
it has a honda civic V-tec engine with a supercharger, what gives the Atom
a 300 brake horsepower! and it weights only 500 kilograms!
looks like fun to drive!

You realy have to see this mpeg movie!!

11 mei 2005

going to chicago

Not me! my mother is! and maybe she brings back a old licenceplate from chicago for me.
If you live in the windy city chicago and have a old spare licence plate for me let me know!!!
my mother is going your way!! love you mom!!

it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

finaly they are all out!!!!!
yesterday we welded one nut to the stud and let it cool off one night with kroil.
and today it came out smooth!! this weekend the dragon will breath fire again!
now there is lots of work to be done, i`m waiting for the parts from the US,
then i can asemble the steering gear again. and we can mount the hood and fenders,
then it will look like a `33 Ford again!!
finaly we make progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10 mei 2005

almost

It partly worked! The easyout came indeed easy out, but the already drilled out studs, broke in half
and there is still a little peace of stud in the engine block, becouse the wall of the drilled out stud was to thin so it broke, but this is easy to drill out and pull it out with a sharp object.
but it didn`t quite work like they said it would!

on the left you see the remains of the easy out.
in the middle the broken peace of stud
and on the right only a little peace of stud with a little bold (for filling the drilled out stud hole)

before this weekend i want to have them out, so we can build up the engine again!
and i know its gonna work!!

8 mei 2005

rust proof coating in cabine

We wanted to get the cabine ready so we starded with a rustproof coating inside.
that includes, the inside of the roof, the back, and the sides of the cabine.
after this, we gonna sand it with a fine sandpaper (230) and paint the cabine by hand.
there will be two layers of black inside the cabine. after the first layer is put on (and dryed!)
we gonna sand it again, and ad the second layer of black.
on top of that there will be a layer of clear coat.

7 mei 2005

tt Truck

I saw this truck on the digital highway, you have to see this original tt Truck!

6 mei 2005

Thuesday maybe?

thuesday is the last day for me to get the studs out! after that i have to go to a garage, maybe they can repair it with helicoils. But i still hope it will work with tig welding!
meanwhile, the clutch and brake pedals are back in place, and the dash has been painted.
so there is work enough! i have placed a new order at Mac`s such as :

LIGHT SWITCH SPIDER SPRING
HORN ROD WIRE REPAIR KIT
HEADLIGHT WIRE HARNESS-TAIL LIGHT
STEERING WHEEL NUT
SPEEDOMETER FIREWALL GROMMET
WATER PUMP LEAD PACKING KIT
GLASS BEDDING-FOR MOUNTING GLASS IN CHANNELS
DOOR GLASS BUMPER
METAL GLASS CHANNEL-RIGHT FRONT
METAL GLASS CHANNEL-LEFT FRONT
BOOK MANUAL-INSTRUCTION BOOK FORD 4-CYL CAR & TRUCK
CLUTCH AND BRAKE PEDAL BUMPER
HINGE PIN MIRROR-CHROME
MIRROR-REAR VIEW
SPEEDOMETER CABLE-STEEL CASING

all cool stuff! i can`t wait for the package to arrive!

next week i will update the pictures in the ford gallery ( see top of this site!)

2 mei 2005

still no sucses with the studs

mig welding doesn`t work!! keep that in mind!
next step, someone who has a tig welding machine is willing to help me out!
i will make a apointment with this guy, and then we know if tig welding realy works.
it simply has to work!! becouse i`m out of ideas!
if someone knows a solution, don`t hazetate to bring it up!

1 mei 2005

clutch/brake shaft

as you might have seen in the ford bb picture galery, the clutch/brake shaft was worn.
so we drived it out and replaced it with a brand new one! including the bushings

and after a layer of rustproof black enamel, it looks like new,

finaly i can brake without skweaking!!

tomorow we gonna try to get the studs out, (again!)
ill keep you posted.

27 april 2005

i`m depressed!!!!!!!!!!!

It`s like the devil is playing with it!!
Finaly we had everything hooked up, tig welding machine, Argon gas, and electrodes.
but when the tig welder was turned on, it gave a lot of flashes and a lot of smoke from inside the welding machine!! and that was the end of 5 days waiting for the big moment!
and the studs are still in the engine block laughing in my face.
what more can go wrong??? i think i do not ask myself this question anymore, or other bad things will happen!
next step, a colege of my has a mig welding machine, and brings it over on monday.
i realy, realy hope that monday everything will work out fine,
so if you love to see missery of other people, stay tuned for a big laugh!

26 april 2005

judgement day

tomorrow is judgement day! then we try to get the studs out by trying to weld a washer and nut on top of it.
will it work? i realy don`t know, they say the method is 100% sucsesfull, lets hope so (i realy want to hear the engine running again this weekend!)
well, we had some time to work on the steering gear, we adjust the steering box painted it and tried to place the lightswitch rod, witch did not fit! becourse the hole in the steering shaft was too narrow.
the problem was a broken off piece of old lightswitch rod that was stuck in top of the steering shaft.
when we fixed that, it fit like a glove!

Tomorrow i will let you know if the welding method worked or ..........

21 april 2005

the problem stud

This is one of the problem studs, with in the drilled hole a broken off easy out.
why do they call it a easy out when the damn thing is broken off and stucks in the stud?
but anyway i hope next week it will be all over, this weekend i`m gonna rent me a TIG welder,
and someone who knows how to weld with tig is going to help me.
so i don`t give up hope (yet)

stay tunned!

19 april 2005

more problems

It didn`t work
I drilled a hole in the stud, and used a contra wire tab to get the stud out,
but the tab broke also! now the stud is filled with steel, and drilling in steel does not work
so i asked what to do at my faforite site yahoo group flatheadfordv8
and Brian helped me out with the next link:

http://idisk.mac.com/forever4/Public/pages/studremoval.htm

it discribes a detailed method of how to remove a broken stud.
I will ad this site to my links!!
now i have to find someone who can weld T.I.G.

18 april 2005

delay starting test

the cylinder head was still leaking cooling water, so i tighten the nuts one more time.
there was still one old stud in the engine block, and it broke off
we have to start over again an drill out the broken stud.
i`ll try do do it bit by bit every day one hour, so i hope its done before the weekend so we can time the engine again and fire it up.
i hate these things, but sometimes they do happen.
today i drained the radiator, and lifted the cylinder head, Tomorow i will try to drill them out.
untill Tomorow!!

17 april 2005

painting the engine

first we made the engine paint free, and tried to unscrew the cylinder head studs, this wasn`t much of a succes, one of the studs broke off in the engine blok, and we had to drill it out. This took us all afternoon, but finaly we replaced them all with new one`s.
then after the old paint was removed, we gave it a new layer of ford engine green.
what a difference!!
Last saturday we went to a vintage ford shop, to get some water hoses, and a lightswitch body
with brackets, so when the lightswitch rod is comming, we can mount it.
After the paint was dry, we rebuild the engine and it realy looks like a new one!
tomorrow i try to fire up the engine, i already have timed the engine, but this is new for me
i hope i timed it right! we`ll see tomorow.

don`t forget to check the ford gallery to see the pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15 april 2005

minor engine overhaul

we`re taking the engine apart, just to give it a good cleanup
there is much carbon in the cylinder head, and we give it a fresh layer of
paint (ford engine green.)
also the electrical system has to be renewed.

cleaned up cylinder head

cleaned and painted generator and starting motor

10 april 2005

taking the ford apart again!

yes we`ve taking the ford apart again! now we gonna take a closer look at the engine, new headgasket and cleaning up the Zenith carburator, and a new electrical cirquit, breaker points etc.
of the ford`s engine isn`t much left see pictures!! at the ford gallery!

9 april 2005

`33 lightswitch rod!

Well what do you know! i posted an ad on the fordbarn site for a lightswitch rod for a `33 ford truck
and i found one!! This must be my lucky week!
it`s a original, becouse they didn`t reproduced these rods.
it needs a new layer of nikkel or chome?
but now i don`t have to make one shorter or longer anymore! Thank you Bill!!

Back in Black!!!!

Finaly it has be painted! and what a diamond black it is!!!
when we came to pick it up, there was a thin layer of dust over the car,
they just keep sanding other cars, but with a compressed air pistol and a cloth
the dust came of and it looked like a mirror!!
tomorrow we have to take the ford appart again to look at the engine,
(we don`t want to drop a wrench on the new paint)
there is still a lot of work to do, But this is where the fun starts!

go to the Ford picture gallery

7 april 2005

1 day left

only one day left from picking up the painted Truck.
i can`t wait! meanwile i try to find out how i can make a `32 lightswitch rod fit in a `33 Truck,
and try to find the messurements of the door glass, these, were missing when i bought the truck.
maybe i have to go to the ford museum, they have a `33 Ford Truck so i can look up what i`m missing on my truck. The headlights are also not original, i Think they are from a citoen traxion avant. but they work for now, ( I first want to have a title for the Netherlands) and they will do fine
for the european standard. I get the original headlights when i have a Dutch licence plate!

2 april 2005

The cabine in primer

When we came to the garage for sanding the cabine, we find out that this already was done!!
The painters surprised us. Wednesday they will paint it black, unfortunaly I only can pick it up
on saturday, then i will see it in black for the first time!

The difference between A-Ford and B-Ford

When i tell people this is a B-Ford engine, They always ask whats the difference is between an A and a B Ford engine. Well here it goes>

The 1932 V-8 was introduced as the 'Ford Model 18.' The four cylinder model was designated the 'Model B.' Although the V-8 was a national sensation and sold very well, there were many four cylinder Model B's produced. Compression of the Model B engine was 4.8; the A was 4.2. The Model B engine produced 50 hp at 2800 rpm; the A produced 40 hp at 2200 rpm. The Model 'B' mains were 2" diameter; mains in the 'A' were 1-5/8". 'B' rods were 1-7/8"; A rods were 1-1/2". The 'B' camshaft provided an increase in valve timing duration which contributed to the 50 hp at 2800 rpm. A diaphragm type fuel pump was mounted to the lower right side of the engine block. The water pump mounted with three bolts instead of four. The oil pump forced oil directly to the main bearings under mild pressure. Along with other valve chamber modifications, the oil return pipe was eliminated. Model 'C;' The 1932-34 Ford four cylinder engine has been unofficially dubbed the Model 'C.' This designation cannot be found in Ford literature or correspondence. It is strictly a user connotation. Changes from the 'B' to the 'C' engine includeed: a crank shaft employing integrally forged counterbalances, a shortened three bolt water water pump housing and a 39 pound flywheel compared to a 62-1/2 pound flywheel provided with the Model 'A.' (The counterbalances make up the difference.) There were 263,765 Model 'B' (and 'C') engines produced between March 9, 1932 and late 1934
